Your Time to Shine – Ovulation

What if there was a time of the month where you knew you could communicate well and people would be attracted to you? It would be the perfect time to give presentations, ask your boss for a raise, or network to meet new people. There are about 4-5 days per cycle when this is true! You are magnetic during ovulation, the time when your egg is released and ready to be fertilized.

It makes sense that people would want to be around you during ovulation. It’s for our species survival! Ovulation is the time your body is ready to get pregnant. Estrogen is high, and testosterone peaks. High estrogen levels are the reason you may feel like you are most mentally sharp, and you can communicate your ideas well. This is a great time to finalize details on your projects.  You can express your ideas with your coworkers and figure out the best way to move forward.

Exercise

High estrogen and testosterone will also allow you to push your body with your workouts. The ovulation phase is the best time to add intensity to your workouts. Running intervals, HIIT, boot camp… Push yourself! Your body can handle the stress. This could also be a great time to try a new workout class since you’re feeling the most social at this time, too. But keep in mind that high levels of estrogen make it critical that you warm-up and cool down before and after these intense workouts. High estrogen will both increase your tolerance to pain, so you don’t know you’re getting injured, and loosen your joints and ligaments. There is an injury risk, so it’s critical to listen to your body and not push TOO hard.

Food

In Alisa Vitti’s book, “In the FLO,” she gives a full list of foods that will benefit the body during ovulation. But to summarize, this is the best time to eat like a raw vegan. Fresh, high fiber foods will help your liver eliminate the extra estrogen in your system. Eat lots of salads and smoothies. Try lightly steaming your veggies. One other benefit is that you’re not going to feel as hungry during the ovulation phase, so you won’t feel like you need to eat as much as other times of the month.


For me, ovulation is my favorite time of my cycle!  I feel energetic and fun.  This month we were playing “joke writing” games online, thanks to sheltering in place, and I found I was winning a lot!  As soon as ovulation was over, my winning streak ended as well.  Use ovulation to your advantage as much as you can.  Call your friends and plan presentations or networking events during this time.  And do higher intensity workouts, and you will feel your energy increase even more.
